About Us

Caring for over 38 years

Featherbed Homecare Limited has been providing compassionate, personal care for over 38 years. Established in 1986, we continue to offer the same high-quality care as a small, independent homecare provider.

Featherbed is owned by founder Sally Carpenter who, along with a very loyal team of care consultants, is dedicated to providing excellent and reliable live in care at a reasonable cost.

We are one of the UK’s leading introductory care agencies. Over the years we have gained an excellent reputation for placing carers and companions with clients who wish to continue to live in the comfort and security of their own homes, but who require support to do so – whether that’s short or long term, through ill health, disability, old age or end of life.

We have offices in Bristol from where we coordinate care services throughout the south west, from Dorset to Gloucestershire including Bath, Bournemouth, Chepstow, Gloucester, Poole, Salisbury, Wells, Weston-super-Mare and Yeovil.

We pride ourselves on the success of our tailored, one to one support, matching only the most suitable and compatible carers to each of our clients.

Why choose Featherbed?

We are dedicated to helping people stay independent by offering excellent and affordable live in care.

We know that there are many care providers to choose from. We differentiate ourselves through the carers we work with. They are all well-known to us, and many have been part of our Featherbed family for years. We specialise in providing exactly the right carer.

You can be assured of a personal and tailor-made service, along with an affordable package of care. We are proud to have been providing private care to people in their own homes since 1986, and the quality of service is underlined by the fact that many of our clients and carers come to us via referrals from others.

We always meet our clients before placing a carer with them so that we get an understanding of their needs, interests, likes and dislikes. We treat our clients like we would our own family, with respect, loyalty and discretion, and we only ever place carers who have proved to us that they are reliable, capable and compassionate.

Attendance Allowance

You could qualify for help with the cost of personal care if you’re both physically or mentally disabled and you’re State Pension age or over.

This is called Attendance Allowance and it is not means tested. It’s paid at 2 different rates and how much you get depends on the level of care that you need because of your disability.

Full information is available at www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC)

We registered with the Care Quality Commission (formerly the Commission for Social Care Inspection) when it was introduced by the government in 2002. Between 2002 and 2010 we had two inspections and each time were awarded a 3* Excellent Rating.

Since the introduction of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (HSCA 2008) which bought changes in the way the Commission regulates care services, we no longer fall within the scope of the HSCA 2008. This is because we do not directly employ our carers. Following our last inspection in June 2012 we were advised by the Commission that we could choose to de-register. This we did and therefore we are no longer registered with CQC.

Please rest assured, our quality of service has not been affected and we continue to strive to provide excellent and affordable private care to our clients, at all times. Copies of our previous inspection reports are available on request.
