About Us30 Years of Care Provision
Featherbed Homecare was established in 1986. Originally called Featherbed Nannies, the name was changed a few years later to Featherbed Homecare when Live in Care provision became our main priority.
Featherbed Homecare continues to be an independent introduction agency with an excellent reputation. It is still owned by its founder and Managing Director, Sally Carpenter, who, along with a very loyal team of care consultants, is dedicated to providing a personal and affordable service for people who want to keep their independence by staying and being looked after in their own homes.
Thirty years after first setting up we prefer to remain a small private agency, and we pride ourselves on the success of our tailored, one to one service and in providing only the most suitable and compatible carers to our clients.
Why choose Featherbed?
Because we are dedicated to helping people stay independent by offering excellent and affordable live in care.
There are many providers to choose from but what makes us special is that the carers we introduce to our clients are well known to us. We all work as a team and many of our carers have been with us for years, providing excellent care and companionship.
We only have the very best experienced and trained carers, some with nursing backgrounds and others with NVQ qualifications. However, we look for something else in our carers, a friendly personality, dedication and commitment.
You can be assured of a very personal and tailor made service along with an affordable package of care. We have been providing private care to people in their own homes for 30 years and during that time many of our clients and carers come to us via referrals from others.
We always meet our clients before placing a carer with them so that we get an understanding of their needs, interests, likes and dislikes. We treat our clients like we would our own family, with respect, loyalty and discretion, and we only ever place carers who have proved to us that they are reliable, capable and compassionate.
High quality care, respect, loyalty and discretion
You could qualify for £55.10 or £82.30 a week to help with the cost of personal care because you’re physically or mentally disabled and you’re aged 65 or over.
This is called Attendance Allowance and it is not means tested. It’s paid at 2 different rates and how much you get depends on the level of care that you need because of your disability.
Full information is available at www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance/overview.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC)
We registered with the Care Quality Commission (formerly the Commission for Social Care Inspection) when it was introduced by the government in 2002. Between 2002 and 2010 we had two inspections and each time were awarded a 3* Excellent Rating.
Since the introduction of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (HSCA 2008) which bought changes in the way the Commission regulates care services, we no longer fall within the scope of the HSCA 2008. This is because we do not directly employ our carers. Following our last inspection in June 2012 we were advised by the Commission that we could choose to de-register. This we did and therefore we are no longer registered with CQC.
Please rest assured, our quality of service has not been affected and we continue to strive to provide excellent and affordable private care to our clients, at all times. Copies of our previous inspection reports are available on request.
Featherbed Homecare is based in the South West, with offices at Bristol and Poole, but our care service covers all areas of the UK.
